Adobe Illustrator is a great way to create a series of both basic shapes and complex ones as well. However, sometimes the designer is looking for a more organic feel to their vector illustration . Brushes provide for a unique appearance of the typical lines that we're used to creating with. They can graphically enhance everything from shapes to text, assist in creating abstract backgrounds and for filling in negative space.
Create a new folder in your Graphic Communications II folder and call if "Brush FX"
- Create a new Adobe Illustrator document (Print, 8.5 x 11)
- Create the words “brush FX” using the type tool (place it to the top of the page as you will create more text occurances that say "brush fx" later on.
- Right click on the text you created and select Create Outlines (this will convert the text into shapes).
- Go to Object and choose Ungroup.
- Open your Brushes panel (under Window).
- Use the Pencil tool to create a squiggly line like the one I have created (yours does not have to be exactly as mine is).
- Give it a 2pt black stroke
- Drag your squiggly line into your Brushes panel.
